The number one Belly Dance Tip:
When a dancer
feels good about herself and her body, it shows. She stands
tall, walks confidently and moves assuredly. And when a dancer
feels negatively about her body, it shows too. She slouches,
her shoulders, walks tentatively and moves
self-consciously.
Take notice
that our appearance, size or talent has little to do with how we
present ourselves and yet the dancer who presents herself with her
personal power and pride rivets us. If we carry ourselves, as
though we are thin, beautiful and talented our world will see us
this way. Thinner women can fade into the crowd unnoticed
while larger women can knock you over with their stately
presence. A belly dancer's larger hips can be her
asset.
If your
appearance were not a preoccupation, how would you be
different? Would you hold head a little higher? Would
you walk into the room or onto the stage as a regal princess or
strike a seductive pose? Would you wear your favorite color,
maybe even a fiery red or brilliant blue? Just for a day
imagine that you look and have every perfect quality and have the
costume that you dream about. In fact, go for that costume if
you don't yet own it.) Cop an attitude. Command your
space.
Look at
famous stars like Rosey O'Donnell or Aretha Franklin. Their
figure is larger than society' ideal but they present with
pride. Then, get out there and make themselves seen and
known. It cannot be denied. They demand
R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Make your
presence known. Let your body say it! You are a
star!
